Pearl City exists in an other worldly place where melancholic pop music reigns supreme and the future’s not so desolate. The project is formed by Manchester based musicians Greta Edith and Nick Delap who after self releasing their debut single ‘Flames’ are now signed to acclaimed independent label Sunday Best.
Their music is pieced together from a range of live instrumentation, studio trickery, field recordings ands obscure instruments, alongside a more typical combo of synthesisers and drum machines, their take on avant-pop blends glacial vocal arrangements, electronic pulses, heavy percussion and phantom echoes.
Pearl City is a dream of a dark fantasy, a place to escape. In the studio they blend field recordings, synths and heavy percussion with ethereal vocals to create new avant-pop sounds and on stage they perform incredible live shows that have recently captivated audiences at Blue Dot festival, Bestival and a UK tour supporting Lost Under Heaven.
Their new single ‘Down By The Tree’ is out now.
Shaquille is a singer/musician/songwriter who has roots in R&B and acoustic music.
Shameer is a dancer/rapper/producer whose style is influenced by a fusion of hip-hop and sub-genres.
Each of them inhabits different art forms, which has recently spread into a wider spectrum of music genres and styles. "NoTTwins" seeks to continue this growth by blending together their range of influences to create a sound that is fresh, relevant, authentic and unique.
Since forming in 2014, Sound Of Thieves have been turning heads wherever they go. Using just a small loop-station and an electric bass as the backbone for their sound, the duo creates huge musical textures, along with hypnotizing beats and searing vocals that captivate and mesmerize listeners everywhere.
The story of the band begins in Nicosia, Cyprus, where Phoebe Pope and Jan Bures envisaged a sound bigger than that of just two people playing together. The concept proved to be a fruitful one, and within the first year of existence Sound Of Thieves performed over 100 concerts, appeared at the biggest musical festivals around the island like Farma Projekt and Fengaros Music Festival, and gained scores of devoted fans. The duo has also performed on BalconyTV, and the live version of their track ‘City’ has been featured on the ‘BalconyTV – Live From The Outside’ compilation album, while the studio version of the track has been released on the ‘DownTempo Interlude’ by Notes & Spirits Recordings.
The second year has been equally fruitful, with more performances around the country, appearance at the Loud Music Festival in Nicosia, and the duo’s first appearance abroad at Nena Sahne in Turkey.
In July 2016 Sound Of Thieves made a bold move of relocating to the UK, and after little consideration picked Manchester as their home base. With the intentions of hitting the ground running, the duo acquired a battery and an inverter, and started their adventures as buskers around the city. Manchester has proved to be a welcoming ground, and Sound Of Thieves quickly caught the attention of the public, resulting in performances around the city, appearances on the Samsara Street Sessions, the Salford Music Festival, and even the Manchester City Etihad Stadium. The duo has also been invited to perform at the Aufgetischt Buskers Festival in Switzerland, Buskers Braunshweig Festival in Germany and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Currently working on their first official release, Sound Of Thieves continue to push boundaries, and feel this is only the beginning of their journey…
